Mmmmmmh...burgers. I'm drooling like Homer Simpson, my stomach's growling, and I wanna rip this Spicy South of the Border Vegetarian Burger off the page and eat it! Since that's physically impossible, I'm gonna follow this recipe from our health and yummy-conscious friends at Culinary Healing and make a big, juicy one as SOON as I get home.

I finally put up some of the pictures from the opening reception of Swoon 's Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea. The performance is over but the installation is still up until October at Deitch Projects. Her wheatpastes are breathtaking and the boats are amazing. The magic is really in the details so you really need to inspect the works up close. I put the flicks on flickr so you could make them larger but you really need to see this in person to take all the detail in.

Congratulations to the always humble and forever adorable Tina Fey for winning her best lead actress Emmy last night, as well as wins for 30 Rock and Alec Baldwin. 'I thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities. Well done. That is what all parents should do,' said Fey.

Local changed how I viewed comics. I started reading this book about three years ago, with the first issue. I've been a comics junkie for years now, but Local was something different. It read like a short film, and its single-issue size made it feel like a perfect indie rock song. Now all twelve issues have been collected into a beautiful, oversize hardcover, complete with backmatter from the originals and extra art to boot. It's more a mixtape than a movie, a series of significant moments from one girl's life strung together to show, at the end, how she became who she is.

Considering all the media speculation on whether or not Palin's gender will be enough to draw votes from ex-Clinton supporters, (nevermind Palin's horrifying politics towards women) protests like this are a breath of fresh air. This Saturday, an 'Alaska Women Reject Palin' rally was held in the lawn of a downtown Anchorage library, shortly after Palin gave a speech in an Anchorage convention center. Hundreds of people participated in the rally, dwarfing a 'Welcome Home Palin' rally held the same day and reportedly making it the biggest protest rally in Alaska state history.

I just peeped this interesting little tidbit on Pop Bitch : On MIA's 'Paper Planes,' the word 'weed' has been bleeped on western daytime radio. In Indonesia and Malaysia, when Katy Perry's song 'I Kissed A Girl' is played, the word 'girl' is bleeped.

Ryder Ripps is one of my besties, he is also the beatmaster/rapmaster in my group 3Pac$. He has been self-perpetuating his fame on the internet since I've known him. He made this film as his final project at New School based on how 'famous' he is and what fame actually means today in the world of reality shows and blogs. He is also the genius behind Mccainme.com. Check Obama after he's been 'McCained'. Asshole, I know but oh so funny. Oh, and I make a camio on a cross at some point in the film! Part two and some of my fav pictures from 'McCain Me' this way...

I've always considered terribly melodramatic poetry to be an inescapable rite of passage for teenagers. All that angst has to go somewhere, you know, and more often than not it ends up scrawled in a black velvet notebook from Waldenbooks, peppered with a few Morrissey quotes to round things out. Maybe I'm generalizing, but come on--we've all been there, right? So I'm completely floored by 16-year-old Jillian Clark's totally kick-ass poetry.

Are you registered to vote in this next, very important election? I'm always surprised by how many young people are not, or mean to and don't get around to registering in time. And since every state has different regulations and cut off dates for registration, its not always easy to do. Guess what? Your government likes it that way! So, please, make sure you are registered, because the cut off dates are really soon, and you don't want to be left out. You can find out the voter registration deadlines for your state here. OR, just got here and register today.
