Here in N.Y.C., the winter chill has come down hard on us this week, as if to rub it in everyone’s faces that the warm, toasty holidays are over and it’s time to face our frigid commutes again. When plunging wind-chills make me feel like my strength is being sapped, it’s tempting to turn to tea or soup as a pick-me-up. But this year, I discovered that a perfectly-chilled glass of green juice in the morning before I head out the door keeps me feeling healthy and strong all day long. I’ve also taken to drinking it in the afternoons to fight off that late-day slump. Densely packed with nutrients and plant-based energy, green juices give me all the pep I used to associate with coffee or diet coke, but they’re so much healthier, I’ll never go back to the brown stuff again. The following recipe for Morning Glorious Juice from Crazy Sexy Kitchen by wellness warrior Kris Carr and Chef Chad Sarno has become my very favorite go-to blend. If you’ve got a juicer at home, give it a whirl and prepare to be amazed by how quickly it perks you up. If you don’t have a juicer yet, just print out this recipe and bring it to your favorite juice bar. They should have all the ingredients needed to whip up a dose of this powerful elixer.
Morning Glorious Juice
It’s our motto and our morning beverage. Green juice is the rock-solid foundation of my crazy sexy life. Almost all of my juice recipes start with one or two cukes. Cucumber is the perfect base since it yields lots of mild and refreshing juice and minerals, and it’s a fountain of alkalinity. Vive la révolution!
1 Wash and prep all ingredients.
2 Juice all ingredients.
1 large cucumber
A fistful kale
A fistful romaine
2 or 3 stalks celery
1 big broccoli stem
1 green apple, quartered
