After Lisa’s "Awesome Lady Drummer Roundup," there was so much positive feedback, enthusiasm, and an overwhelming amount of suggestions, it was undeniable that a second lady drummer roundup was called for. As a drummer myself, I am honored to share with you the musician babes whom I worship and who inspire me. We present to you the following roundup of mainly current and underground bands in hopes of shedding a little bit of light on these kick-ass bands whose drummers happen to be female.
Summer Twins, "The Good Things"
These sunny So-Cal sisters know what’s good with summery jams and baby animals.
Peter Pants, "Beaker"
She maintains miraculous composure on lead vocals during a non-linear drum beat. So sick.
Grass Widow, "Milo Minute"
Here, Grass Widow plays for gorillas Gigi, Kiki, Kira, Kimani, Kambiri & Kit. Yep that happened.
Brilliant Colors, "'Round Your Way"
Female incarnation of Bay Area-based group Girls…anyone?
Stone Darling, "You’ve Been On My Mind"
These unsigned laydies are navigatin’ their way through the LA music scene independently and quite successfully. Keep an eye on these babies.
Sheila E., Drum Solo
Ehh, she’s okay. She’s not wearing enough sparkles. (KIDDING!!) Watch ‘n worship.
The White Stripes, "Fell in Love With a Girl" & "Dead Leaves And The Dirty Ground"
This video is completely absurd, but it’s a prime example of Meg/Jack seamless live transitions. Meg is the ultimate.
Ty Segall, "Skin"
Ty Segall’s drummer Emily Rose Epstein has the Meg White deadpan thing down pat.
Slutever, "Smells Like Milk"
Chicks drinking whiskey, darts, and America. What more could one want?
Happy Birthday, "Girls FM"
Home girl lays down some of the best beats I’ve ever heard. Plus her sister happens to be tUnE-yArDs. Musical genes..?
Yo La Tengo, "Sugarcube"
Georgia Hubley has been schoolin’ the drums for decades now. A classic powerhouse lady drummer.
