Rebecca Turbow Fall 2011

BY Laurie in Style

As we continue to freeze our butts off up here in NYC while patiently awaiting Spring, we could not help but notice the fabulous looks that Rebecca Turbow has in the works for Fall 2011 – these fashion people live in the future! I love the gothy palette (hello gray and black, we're friends already) on these mod little numbers, and the model here is just too adorable. Photographed by BUST contributor Aliya Naumoff, I can't wait to get my hands on that cape, or maybe that trench? http://www.rebeccaturbow. Read More
I won’t lie, you will definitely find Lil Wayne in my iTunes library, but these fabulous little ladies of Watoto From the Nile do make a point. In fact, most of today’s hip-hop is overloaded with misogynistic lyrics and Lil Wayne is guilty. Their song “Letter to Lil Wayne,” is recorded over his track “Single” where their innocent voices challenge his inappropriate behavior and disrespect to women.  These girls who, by the way, are really freaking cute, sing “my daddy tells me I’m a queen, but you call women other things. “The Army didn’t want them there. The academy leadership didn’t want them there. The school’s faculty and cadets didn’t want them there. It seemed no one did–but in July 1976, 119 young women stood at the gates to the US Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, NY, to embark on a course that would change their lives, the academy and the Army, forever.”  After the 1975 legislation signed by President Ford, women were welcomed into US service academies. Jake Quagliaroli, a 34 year old man from Indiana, was visiting PT's Showclub when the fun-filled night took a high-speed turn. According to his attorney, Syed Ali Saeed, Quagliaroli was hit in the face by a heavy bottomed shoe when an exotic dancer's "high kick maneuver" went very wrong. The impact resulted in four chipped teeth. As Saeed stated, "It was not a situation where it was a light tap on the face. It hit him with quite a bit of force. You can imagine the velocity at which the shoe must have come out when it hit him in the face. Read More
Perhaps you attended the huge rally last weekend in support of Planned Parenthood, like we did, and are looking for new ways to help. Well now you can support Planned Parenthood AND laugh your ass off all in one night! Or maybe even laugh at the GOP for threatening to cut funding for Planned Parenthood, our leading provider for sexual and reproductive healthcare. We Love You, a bi-monthly stand up comedy show in New York, is donating all the show's proceeds to Planned Parenthood on Sunday, March 27th at 8PM. Read More
Director Michel Gondry, known for directing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep has created an ironically hilarious video for The Living Sisters, “How Are You Doing.” The LA-based musicians, Inara George, Eleni Mandell, and Becky Stark have a very catchy sound and made a music video that seems to contradict the happy lyrics of “How Are You Doing?” The series of catastrophic events include burning your morning breakfast and your house down, riding on an airplane during a storm, and going into labor. I remember the first time I heard Ellie Goulding. That statement sounds like the makings of an “I remember the first time I heard the Beatles” story (well, they are all British). But seriously, I remember the first time I heard Ellie Goulding. It was in 2009 at Cafeteria NYC (you know, the restaurant on “Sex & the City” where Stanford finds out his boyfriend doubles as a male escort named “Paul”). Anyway, Ellie’s cover of Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold” was playing in the restaurant. Read More
Luminous Kitchens has created an all-natural energy bar that tastes nothing like those stale bars you find in the grocery store. It’s animal free (except for honey, sorry strict vegans!), and completely free of refined sugar. It’s also 90% organic. A lot of people don’t usually equate healthy with tasty, but this bar would prove anyone wrong. It’s so soft it practically melts in your mouth, and natural sweeteners like brown rice syrup and honey create a very sweet taste. Since there are no added artificial flavors, the natural ingredients pop in your mouth. Read More
