But until the day that the land of my forebearers decides that oppression is not an integral part of culture and heritage, I offer this video to Bust readers as a token of my faith in Texas. This song was originally written by Ned Sublette 1981, since then it has been covered by Pansy Division and of course, Willie Nelson! And yes, that is Burt Reynolds sitting next to Willie. Also, any reason to see cowboys waltzing with cowboys is a good reason. -Emma ... Read More
Multimedia can be tricky to pull off in the theater, but HERE Arts Center does it masterfully, especially in Christina Campanella's new production Red Fly/Blue Bottle. Eye candy, fantastically creepy music, and an expert dash of steampunk fill the stage in this deliciously haunting concert exploring what happens in the dusty parlors and back rooms of empty houses, long after the minutes have ticked away your life, stealing everyone and everything that matters. A ... Read More
Nikki Cook, one of Bust's favorite ladies in comics, has a new book out this week. She worked on DMZ #41 with Brian Wood. It's a stand-alone issue, focusing on what happens to Zee, one of the book's lead characters, when she ventures outside the protected section of a war-torn Manhattan. Nikki did a guest spot, filling in for the book's regular artists, and she took some time to talk about it with Bust before it came out. Read on! How did you get started ... Read More

Amazon FAIL

BY Sarah J. in Feminizzle

Amazon.com apparently hasn't gotten the memo that the culture wars are dead. They've stripped the sales rankings--and therefore, the search ratings--of books that deal with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues, as well as feminist books like Full Frontal Feminism. It affects the search rankings for books. For small authors who depend on Amazon reviews and sales rankings, this is disastrous. Of course, it's also terrible for freedom of expression. ... Happy Easter, Bunny

BY Laurie in General

For this week's Ms Friday, it seems appropriate to use a disgruntled New School grad. Susana graduated from Parsons, the New School for Design, last spring. She booked it straight out of the city and set up her sexy new life in Savannah Georgia, home of the Girl Scouts. Susana is getting her master's at SCAD, helping run the Savannah branch of Dr. Sketchy's , immersing herself in the burgeoning burlesque scene and of course, making art! And now Susana ... Read More
Laurie posted a while back about the US version of this ad for the Schick Quattro, which is currently airing on TV. I don't know whether this British version of the ad is airing in the UK or if it's just intended as a hilllaaarrrious viral video, but I can tell you one thing: while it is more outrageous in it's cutesy double entendres (watch for the 'tulips on a mound' bit), I find it even more irritating than the more docile US version. This ad is aimed at women, ... Read More
Look what I found while cleaning off my computer! Laurie's daughter Olive and Janeane Garofalo our cover girl in 1999, and she is wearing one of the original BUST shirts (which you can still get ... Read More
(Not to mention cute NYPD detectives) The New School protest/occupation is happening right across the street from the BUST office, so we've been out on the fire escape watching! (Those of us who can get through the police barricade, that is). But unfortunately the cops started yelling at us so we had to go back inside and just watch from the windows. Luckily I took plenty of pictures on my phone, which you can go look at if the slideshow isn't working for ... Read More
